The eCommerce Senior Software Developer is responsible for the design, development, support, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of the Shop STERIS eCommerce platform built on HCL Commerce (formerly WebSphere Commerce). This role partners closely with business stakeholders, architects, and cross-functional IT teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing eCommerce solutions that support STERIS' digital commerce strategy. The position is responsible for requirements analysis, solution design, application development, testing, deployment support, and production issue resolution. In addition, the Senior Software Developer leads complex technical initiatives, supports enterprise integrations with other STERIS applications, and contributes to platform upgrades, performance improvements, and modernization efforts. This role provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members, promotes development of best practices, and helps ensure the successful delivery of business and technology objectives. Participate in project planning sessions with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Technical Analysts, Architects, and Development team members to analyze business and technical requirements and define appropriate technology solutions. Collaborate in design reviews and contribute recommendations to ensure scalable, maintainable, and high-performing solutions. Lead the technical design and implementation of complex HCL Commerce enhancements and integrations. Create and maintain detailed technical design documents, application specifications, and development artifacts. Follow and adhere to established Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes throughout project planning, development, testing, deployment, and support phases. Develop and enhance eCommerce functionalities & integration requirements for Shop STERIS Configure, customize, and support HCL Commerce storefronts, catalog management, promotions, pricing, search, order management, and other modules. Develop and maintain integration between HCL Commerce and enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, OMS, payment gateways, tax services, and third-party applications. Work with REST/SOAP APIs, Java/J2EE technologies, SOLR/Search services, and cloud-based eCommerce integrations. Create prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to validate technical approaches and business requirements. Incorporate security, compliance, and data privacy requirements into application design and development activities. Perform unit, system, integration, and regression testing to ensure application quality and stability. Participate in peer code reviews and ensure solutions aligned with established architectural standards, coding practices, and quality guidelines. Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior developers through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring activities. Support application modernization, upgrades, and migration initiatives within the HCL Commerce platform. Analyze and resolve complex production issues, performance bottlenecks, and integration challenges across the eCommerce ecosystem. Identify, document, and support ongoing application maintenance, enhancements, and production support activities. Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and release management processes. Specific Work Requirements Years of Experience Strong knowledge of Java/J2EE technologies, including Servlets, JSP, JDBC, Spring Framework, and enterprise application development. Good understanding of SQL and PL/SQL, with experience in database design, query optimization, and troubleshooting. Hands-on experience with HCL Commerce (formerly WebSphere Commerce) development, customization, and support. Strong knowledge of HCL Commerce subsystems, including Catalog, Member, Order, Inventory, Marketing, Promotions, Pricing, and Payments. Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating HCL Commerce with enterprise and third-party applications. Good understanding of HCL Commerce Store Architecture, Data Model, Search Framework, and Commerce Composer. Hands-on experience with HCL Commerce Management Center (CMC) and business user tooling. Experience developing custom commands, controllers, services, schedulers, and integration components within the HCL Commerce platform. Working knowledge of eCommerce integrations involving ERP, OMS, CRM, payment gateways, tax services, and fulfillment systems. Experience with source control tools such as JIRA, GIT, similar bug tracking & version management platforms. Experience migrating or upgrading HCL Commerce environments is preferred Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders. Proven ability to mentor developers and foster technical excellence across the team. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively collaborating within cross-functional teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality solutions within project timelines. 7+ years of experience in Software Development Life Cycle 6+ years of experience in developing applications using JAVA 5+ years of experience in supporting eCommerce applications using HCL Commerce (formerly WebSphere Commerce) Experience with supporting mobile responsive applications Experience in APIs, Web Services Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms such as Azure. Experience supporting production environments and resolving critical eCommerce platform issues Experience with HCL Commerce upgrades, migrations preferred.
